A key challenge in coastal areas across the globe is the usage of brackish and saline waters for the cultivation of commercially viable plants. Microalgae is one form of plant which is gaining traction in various technical applications - This invention is about the isolation of strains of high salinity tolerant microalgae and the process to cultivate and produce this microalgae to obtain valuable products.

Distinctive elements:

  • The technique allows to produce microalgae from high salinity environments, which otherwise could not be used.

Examples of areas of application:

  • Direct use of the microalgae as food stock
  • Production of protein replacements (supplements)
  • Production of Biofuel
