The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was established in 1971 to operate in all areas of the oil and gas industry and since then has steadily broadened its activity in establishing companies and subsidiaries and creating an integrated oil and gas industry in the fields of exploration and production, support services, oil refining and gas processing, chemicals and petrochemicals, maritime transportation and refined products and distribution.

ADNOC’s efforts in the exploration and production field have concentrated on assessing undiscovered reserves and optimizing hydrocarbon recovery by improving the reservoir management.

In ADNOC, technology is recognized as the driving force for increasing the supply of hydrocarbons while reducing their environmental footprint. The company’s Research & Development arm has been mandated to develop and deploy sustainable technological innovations for the ADNOC Group of Companies, enabling highest recovery from hydrocarbon reservoirs and assets, while strengthening the Emirati-strong R&D workforce for its dedicated future needs.

In connection with the mission and business activities of ADNOC, the Department of Economic Development (DED) - Abu Dhabi provides tailored Intellectual Property (IP) services to the ADNOC Group of Companies in the following areas:

  • Performing design expertise support for required processes and the legal and commercial investigation of the IP pipeline throughout the group.
  • Designing, developing and implementing the Intellectual Property (IP) processes - namely IP management (to facilitate the creation and protection of new IP ) and supporting the implementation of promising new technologies.
  • Operating and further improving these processes to ensure the optimum fit for the ADNOC group of Companies.
  • Managing the IP portfolio for its group of companies including the Petroleum Institute
